Friday 26th July – Clowing
Clowning has a long history of defiance against structures of power, and this session will pick apart the links between clown and punk, irreverence and anarchy. What happens to authority when it is challenged by ridicule? Pulling together exercises from a range of international practitioners, we’ll explore some of the fundamentals of Clown; the glory in failure, the magic rule of three, celebrating our mistakes, daring to be seen, and how these wee nuggets of truth gleaned in clowning can support our approach to movement. Red noses not required.
Friday 30th August – Exploring Greek Text through Movement
An exploration of Greek choral movement, Lecoq Identifications, text from Sophocles’ Oedipus to develop storytelling, acting choices and finding the rhythms, breath and spirit of Greek Tragedy.
Friday 27th September – Viewpoints
This session will be an introduction to Viewpoints, which is a system of movement developed in the United States, consisting of physical and vocal Viewpoints. In this session we will focus on the physical Viewpoints as set out by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau of the SITI company in New York City in the Viewpoints Book. Viewpoints provides a vocabulary for developing and observing performance that allows discussion and sharpening of physical practice through a specific shared language. The session will introduce each Viewpoint individually and allow improvisation exploring each Viewpoint in turn, and then in combination if time allows!
